Crown Lengthening
Confident Smile through better dentistry
Crown lengthening is usually performing to improve the health of the gum tissue, prepare the mouth for a procedure, or correct a “gummy smile.” A “gummy smile” is using to describe an instance where teeth are covering with excess gum tissue resulting in a less aesthetically-pleasing smile.
ESTHETIC CROWN LENGHTHENING
The aesthetic crown lengthening procedure involves reshaping or re-contouring the gum tissue and bones around the relevant teeth to establish a new gum-tooth relationship. Aesthetic crown extension can be performed on a single tooth, multiple teeth or the entire gum line. Succeeding this procedure, your teeth will look noticeably longer and more aesthetic as you will show more of your natural tooth structure!
Functional Crown lengthening is often required when your tooth needs a new crown or other restoration like a filling. If your tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, the edge of the future restoration will be located deep in the gum tissue, and your ordinary dentist will not be able to reach it immediately. The restoration will also be too close to the bone, which will cause a biologic issue called “invasion of biologic width.” This is because the edges of the new restoration are too close to the bone and compress the gum tissue attachments. If this kind of invasion occurs, the gum tissue will appear red or purple and will often bleed easily.
